Welcome! I'm Sarah Mei (formerly Wustner), based in San Francisco, California, in the United States.
This is my homepage.
What I'm up to these days: I'm looking for a job! My current project is winding down, and I'll be available on April 1st, 2008. Read more here.
Until then, I'm still developing Ruby on Rails applications for NPOs and small businesses at Colorful Expressions, a small consulting firm in downtown San Francisco.
I'm a member of Devchix, an online community of women developers. I occasionally blog there on techie topics.
I've been thinking about how to get more women and girls interesting in programming, and how to retain the ones we already have. I've started a somewhat utilitarian blog to collect my thoughts on that topic. (Note - with a toddler in the house, this hasn't been updated in some time, but I still welcome your comments and feedback.)
I'm also interested in technology and its relation to developing countries. I was one of the six original Geekcorps pilot volunteers, and that experience changed, and hopefully deepened, my understanding of global economics and the politics of aid. I've been looking for a way to incorporate this interest back in to my professional life. Perhaps now is the time. :)
Previously: I spent 6 years doing traditional Java and J2EE software development before setting out for uncharted waters in 2003, first as an e-commerce site owner, and later as a technology consultant. In recent years I have returned to software, my first love. View my full resume.
Non-Work-Related: When I get some extra time, I do fabric work with old Japanese kimonos (I bought a bulk lot some years back). I take Japanese classes at Soko Gakuen, a language school at a Buddhist monastery near my house, and I occasionally contribute to Wikipedia.
I have a husband and a two-year-old somewhere around here, too.
Further updates as events warrant!
